Awe & Nature Contemplation

A secular outdoor routine that shifts attention outward toward vast, novel, or beautiful things to evoke awe and calm. Open to anyone regardless of belief; the aim is perspective and presence, not doctrine. Evidence for awe practices is still early, so treat benefits as promising rather than guaranteed.

Grade inherited from the evidence blocks this routine implements. Duration is a starting point (do more or less); the app just tells you where you land against the evidence-based dose.
  1. 1
    Awe and Self-Transcendence
    8-10 min read (once)
Sets realistic, secular expectations for awe and self-transcendence given early evidence (Grade C).
  2. 2
    Awe Walk
    15-20 min walk
Governing practice. Walk with intentional attention to awe-evoking sights; let attention move away from rumination.
  3. 3
    Nature-Based Contemplation
    10-15 min quiet outdoor attention
Optionally sit at the end of the walk in calm, open awareness of the setting.
