Large bodies of pooled trial evidence show that structured balance and functional training measurably improves postural control and reduces falls in older adults, with the strongest effects when balance is progressively challenged. Neuromotor skills such as reactive balance, gait adaptability, and coordination are trainable at any age. Effects depend on adequate challenge, dose, and progression rather than any single exercise. This overview frames the concepts (why it works) and practices (how to train) that follow.
