In daily life we rarely balance with full attention, we walk while talking or carrying things. Dual-task and cognitive-motor training deliberately combine a balance or gait task with a mental task. Reviews report improvements in balance, gait under dual-task conditions, and some cognitive measures, supporting its use especially in older adults. Load should be added gradually so the motor task stays safe.

Common misconceptions
- 'You should always concentrate fully on balance' (training to balance while distracted is the point)
- 'Dual-task drills replace strength work' (they complement, not replace, other training)

- Two or more falls in the past 12 months, or any fall with injury
