Periodization is the planned manipulation of training variables (load, volume, intensity) across weeks and months. For trained lifters and athletes, structured periodization can modestly outperform doing the same thing indefinitely, particularly for peaking maximal strength, and both linear and undulating models work. For general-population goals the more important factors are simply progressing over time and staying consistent; elaborate periodization is a refinement, not a prerequisite.

- Myth: Beginners need a complex periodized plan. Actually: Novices progress well with simple linear progression; advanced periodization matters mainly once easy gains slow.
- Myth: One periodization model is clearly best. Actually: Linear and undulating approaches produce broadly similar results; adherence and progression outrank the specific model.
