Regularity of sleep timing is linked in cohort research to better cardiometabolic health and lower mortality risk, sometimes independent of total sleep duration. A steady wake time is the strongest anchor for the body clock. Evidence is largely observational, so we frame consistency as a supportive habit rather than a guaranteed outcome.

Common misconceptions
- “Sleeping in on weekends fixes weekday debt.” Large shifts create social jet lag.
- “Bedtime matters more than wake time.” A fixed wake time is the more reliable anchor.
