Weekly Volume & Frequency Drive Flexibility

Total weekly stretching time is what drives flexibility; spreading it out is a practical way to accumulate it.

Research consistently shows…

Chronic flexibility gains track most closely with accumulated weekly stretching volume. Stretching on most days is a practical way to accumulate that volume, though the research reviewed for this library has not tested whether spreading a given weekly total across more sessions beats concentrating it into fewer. Either way, flexibility remains one of the most schedulable, low-barrier fitness qualities.

Common misconceptions
  • Stretching once a week is enough, frequency and total volume matter.
  • You need marathon sessions, small daily doses add up.
What we won't claim
  • Any amount of stretching guarantees large flexibility gains.
When to seek a professional
  • Persistent joint pain or sudden loss of range of motion, refer to a physician or physical therapist.
