Evidence supports dynamic stretching before activity and reserving longer static or PNF holds for after exercise or standalone sessions, when transient force reductions do not matter. Post-exercise static stretching does not clearly speed recovery, but it is a convenient time to build ROM when tissues are warm. Timing is about protecting performance, not a magic window.
