How stretching and mobility work change your range of motion, and where the science is strong versus genuinely mixed.
Flexibility training reliably increases joint range of motion, and that finding is supported by many high-quality systematic reviews and meta-analyses. However, two of the most popular reasons people stretch, preventing injury and boosting performance, have far weaker and more mixed evidence. This library separates what stretching consistently does (raises ROM, tolerance to stretch, and reduces passive stiffness over weeks) from what it does not reliably do (prevent most injuries, cure pain). Grades reflect that honesty: strong for ROM adaptation, cautious for injury and performance claims.
