Does Stretching Prevent Injury? The Honest Answer
Stretching alone shows little clear injury-prevention benefit; multi-component warm-ups (like FIFA 11+) do better.

Evidence suggests…
This is one of the most over-claimed areas in fitness. Isolated static stretching has not been shown to reliably prevent most sports or activity injuries. By contrast, multi-component neuromuscular warm-up programs such as FIFA 11+, which combine strength, balance, and dynamic movement, not just stretching, do reduce certain injuries. We grade this down and disclose it: do not promise injury-proofing from stretching.

Common misconceptions
- Stretching before sport prevents injuries, isolated stretching shows little clear benefit.
- Flexibility is the main injury-prevention factor, strength and neuromuscular control matter more.
What we won't claim
- Stretching prevents injuries.
- Being flexible makes you injury-proof.
- Skipping stretching causes injuries.
When to seek a professional
- Persistent joint pain or sudden loss of range of motion, refer to a physician or physical therapist.
