Multiple Grade-A meta-analyses show that prolonged static stretching (typically ≥60 s per muscle) immediately before maximal efforts produces a small, real reduction in strength and power, the "stretch-induced force deficit." The effect is small and largely avoided with shorter holds (<60 s) and an active warm-up afterward. This is why dynamic prep is generally preferred before power and sprint activities.
