Tempo / Threshold Training

Sustained 'comfortably hard' efforts near the lactate threshold that raise the pace you can hold aerobically.

Preliminary research suggests…

Sustained work at a comfortably hard effort is a long-standing staple of endurance programming, and higher-intensity aerobic work does drive cardiorespiratory gains. What is not established is the threshold framing itself: in the low-intensity literature behind this library, threshold-anchored prescriptions appear only in narrative sources rather than in trials or pooled analyses. Use tempo work as a practical middle gear, not as a precisely targeted physiological zone.

Common misconceptions
  • 'Tempo means all-out' (it is controlled, comfortably hard)
  • 'More threshold is always better' (it needs recovery like any hard work)
What we won't claim
  • No cure claims for any disease
  • No guaranteed outcomes or fixed numeric results for any individual
  • Does not replace prescribed medical treatment
When to seek a professional
  • Chest pain, pressure, or unusual shortness of breath during exertion
  • Fainting, dizziness, or palpitations with exercise
  • Known or suspected cardiovascular, metabolic, or renal disease without medical clearance
