Training can increase the body's capacity to burn fat during exercise, though this does not straightforwardly translate to greater fat loss.

Evidence suggests aerobic training shifts substrate use toward greater fat oxidation at a given intensity, and diet composition also influences fat-burning during exercise. However, higher fat oxidation during a session does not guarantee greater body-fat loss, which depends on overall energy balance. We grade this area moderately because mechanistic findings do not consistently predict body-composition outcomes.
