Dose–Response: How Much Cardio for Health

Health and fitness benefits scale with the dose of aerobic activity, with the steepest gains when moving from inactive to modestly active.

Guideline reviews and dose–response analyses show benefits begin below the classic 150 min/week target and increase with more activity, with diminishing but continued returns at higher volumes. The relationship supports a floor (some is much better than none) and a flexible ceiling (more generally helps, within recovery limits). Optimal dose depends on goals and starting fitness.

  • 'Under 150 minutes is pointless' (lower doses still help)
