Cardiorespiratory Fitness as a Health Marker

Higher cardiorespiratory fitness is associated with lower risk of chronic disease and mortality, making it a meaningful health target.

Large reviews link higher CRF and physical activity with lower cardiovascular and all-cause mortality, and CRF often carries prognostic information beyond activity self-report. Because CRF is modifiable through training, improving it is a defensible health goal. These are observational associations for the mortality endpoints, so we describe risk reduction, not guaranteed prevention for any individual.
