Just-in-Time Financial Micro-Learning

Instead of long courses, learn one specific money concept right when you need it, e.g., how interest works before taking a loan. This 'teachable moment' approach is where education actually helps.

Beta content. Evidence for this dimension is still developing; grade is conservative and will be upgraded as more research is reviewed.
Evidence suggests…

Because broad financial education barely changes behavior (Fernandes 2014; Menard 2017), the evidence points to a narrower niche that works: 'just-in-time', decision-linked education (Kaiser 2017 found larger effects at a teachable moment). We grade B, evidence suggests the timing and specificity of micro-learning matter, while being explicit that generic literacy content should not be expected to transform behavior on its own.

Common misconceptions
  • 'A big financial course will fix my habits' (evidence shows generic courses barely move behavior)
  • 'Learning has to happen before I need it' (just-in-time learning at the decision point works better)
