These drills systematically alter sensory input, eyes open vs. closed, firm vs. foam surface, head turns and nods, to train the nervous system to reweight vision, vestibular, and proprioceptive signals. Visual-related and sensory-integration training can improve balance and walking ability in older adults. Because reducing vision raises risk, drills are always done with a stable support within reach.

This is the evidence-based dose. A shorter session still counts, it just gives partial benefit rather than the full effect.
Common misconceptions
- 'Balance is only in the legs' (it's a whole-brain sensory task)
- 'Eyes closed anytime is fine' (only with support and gradual progression)

- New or worsening unsteadiness, neurological symptoms, or numbness in the feet
- Fear of falling severe enough to restrict daily activity
