Longer continuous aerobic sessions increase total training volume, and volume is a well-supported driver of endurance and cardiorespiratory fitness. The cellular story often told alongside it is weaker than it sounds: mitochondrial content rises by a similar amount whether training is long and easy or short and hard, so easy volume is not a special route to that adaptation. Long easy sessions earn their place because they build durable aerobic work capacity at a fatigue cost you can repeat.
