Range of motion (ROM) is how far a joint travels during a rep. Emerging evidence suggests training through a full ROM - and especially emphasizing the stretched, long-muscle-length portion - tends to produce equal or greater hypertrophy than partial ranges, while strength gains are somewhat specific to the range trained. Full-ROM training also supports joint mobility and functional carryover, making it a sensible default with partials reserved as a purposeful supplement.
