Warm-Up: What It Does and Does Not Do
A good active warm-up improves readiness and performance; static stretching is not the key ingredient.

Grade-A evidence supports active, dynamic warm-ups for improving subsequent performance and readiness, largely through raised muscle temperature and neuromuscular activation. Adding long static stretches to a warm-up does not improve, and may slightly reduce, power output. The performance benefit comes from movement, not from holding stretches.
