Evidence suggests acute stretching produces small non-local (crossover) increases in range of motion in muscles that were not stretched, likely via central nervous system mechanisms and increased global stretch tolerance. Effects are modest and short-lived. It is a mechanistic curiosity that reinforces the sensory/neural basis of much acute ROM change.
