Detraining: Use It or Lose It

Fitness gains reverse when training stops, but they can be regained, and even reduced training preserves much of the benefit.

Research consistently shows…

Evidence shows VO2max and other adaptations decline measurably within weeks of stopping training (detraining), with larger losses over longer breaks. Maintaining even a reduced dose preserves much of the gain, and lost fitness can be rebuilt. This reinforces consistency and the value of maintenance training during busy periods.
