Focused, feedback-driven practice at the edge of your ability builds the specific skill, reliably for that skill, not for general intelligence.
Deliberate practice, effortful, focused repetition with feedback, targeting weaknesses just beyond current ability, is how expertise develops. In this dataset it shows up indirectly: structured instrument practice improved specific cognitive skills, multi-skill learning programs produced sustained gains on practiced abilities, and 'engagement' routes to cognitive resilience mirror deliberate-practice principles. We grade C because the classic deliberate-practice research sits largely outside this cognitive-aging dataset, and because gains are skill-specific (near transfer), consistent with the honest transfer story. Use deliberate practice to genuinely get better at things you value; don't expect it to raise general intelligence.
